Tinnitus Masker app review: not useful

Introduction

Tinnitus Masker is a simple app for iPhone and iPad that claims to be able to mask tinnitus sounds with the use of soothing ambient background tracks, but unfortunately the feedback has been less than inspiring and it appears as if this app does not deliver the goods.

From what I’ve been able to ascertain, this app is little more than a collection of ambient sound tracks, so if you do notice any benefits from it with regards to your own tinnitus I would speculate that this is fortunate for you but is little more than coincidence.

No Good for Tinnitus Masking

This app contains tracks like White Noise, Ocean Waves, Rain Drizzle, Pink Noise, Light Stream, and so on, with the intention of helping to mask the high-pitched ringing or buzzing sound often associated with tinnitus.

Unfortunately it appears as if these are just run-of-the-mill ambient audio tracks that do little more than potentially provide a pleasing sound backdrop to your meditation or general relaxation efforts.

Look Elsewhere

Tinnitus Masker has been criticized on the iTunes description page by a long-time tinnitus suffer who claims that it provided basically no benefits, so this “straight from the horse’s mouth” opinion was definitely enough to make me skeptical.

Upon using the app myself, it seems pretty obvious that it provides nothing beyond what you’d find in any standard meditation app, so I’m afraid you’ll have to look elsewhere for an app that can provide relief from tinnitus.

Pros

• Designed to drown out tinnitus through the manipulation of audio frequencies
• Choose from a variety of pleasant ambient sounds

Cons

• One long-time sufferer of tinnitus has left a complaint on the iTunes description page for this app, claiming that they “really did not notice much if any improvement”
• It appears as if these sounds are simply generic or stock ambient sounds rather than anything that has actually been designed exclusively for the purpose of masking tinnitus

Final Words

Tinnitus Masker doesn’t deliver on its promises and is definitely not worth downloading on to your iPhone and iPad, so look elsewhere in the Health & Fitness and medical categories of the App Store and you might have better luck.
