Math Kid app review: a helpful app for teaching kids math

Reviews

Introduction

Math Kid is an iPad and iPhone app that helps your child practice math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and when unlocked, percentage, Roman numerals, decimals, fractions, integers, and more. It is a versatile teaching tool in that you can personalize the questions to suit your student.

Many Operations to Learn

Math Kid includes many operations for your student to learn. If your student is learning to add, then you can select just the addition option. There is a visual hint also of hands with highlighted fingers. This way, your child can count the fingers, and thus add them up. Students who are beginning math do very well with manipulatives, and this visual hint is helpful to reinforce learning.

Additionally, once they begin to learn addition, they can start to do subtraction as well. Again, the fingers will appear for your student to add up the numbers, and then count off the ones that they are to subtract.

There are also multiplication with groupings of dots, and division. These are the free options, but there are many more that can be unlocked if you choose to use the app for more advanced operations.

Unlock for Even More

Math Kid also has a lot of great additional features that can be unlocked for even more learning. These include percentage, Roman numerals, decimals, fractions, integers, and more. What I love is that you get a full app for the main functions, but if you need to do more difficult math for higher grades, then you can purchase the full app.

Additionally, if you are a teacher or a parent with more than one student, then you can purchase three students, seven students, or 15 students. This means that if you have 30 students, you can get two 15s, or if you have a different number then you can create your pack with the various packs.

Final Thoughts

Math Kid is an iPad and iPhone app to teach your kid math. They can start with the very beginning basics, right up to higher level math if you choose to purchase the full app. This app is fun for kids because it teaches them how to use their own fingers to make the math. It is always amazing to see the discovery when kids begin to do the math on their own fingers. The excitement when they are able to add the numbers and get the correct answer. It doesn’t matter how difficult it is, or how old they are: there is always a bit of glee in a correct answer, and this app will help them to succeed in the most basic way. Overall, I would definitely recommend this app to parents trying to help their kids with math, or just for additional practice.
