Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Games is an iPad and iPhone app that has learning activities for children ages two to five. Activities include shapes and colors, and letters in the free trial. Should you choose to buy the full version you'll also get counting, memory, alphabet, addition, puzzles, spelling, subtract, positions, nouns and verbs, and countdown.

Learning Fun

Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Games has a lot of great learning activities. In the shapes and colors section, your child taps on the correct shape to see the dancing owl. Once the player notices the matching pattern, he or she will see that the shape word and shape match in color. The owl dances higher each time, and also dances in a different pattern.

One glitch I found is that occasionally there are two shapes of different colors on the screen, but if you tap the one not matching the word color, then the screen does not recognize it as a correct answer. Additionally, there would occasionally be two shapes of the same color that would confuse children. I guess this is a test for them to increase difficulty.

No Conclusion

While I enjoy that the game keeps going to keep kids playing as long as they’re interested, Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Games does need to have some sort of end. I played for a good 10 minutes waiting for that end, and didn’t find one.

What I do like is that in order to exit the activity, you have to do a specific motion. The exit X is readily apparent, and older kids know exactly where it is to exit. With the specific motion, all you have to do is instruct your child to bring you the tablet to switch activities. Or, as older kids get to be too smart sometimes, they’ll figure it out on their own.

This is an app I would suggest that you have Guided Access ready for so that your child doesn’t just exit the app.

Final Thoughts

Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Games is an iPad and iPhone that teaches the basics, language skills, and math to children aged 2 to 5. The game has a specific exit motion to change activities, and this means that you have to help your younger children switch activities. This is a good thing. I also appreciate that there are different activities for various ages. You can start your child on the free levels, and when ready, you can purchase the full version to supplement the learning. Overall, this app is great fun for people, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants an easy to use app for their child to learn.
