Here's an app that will put a twist on traditional chess and help you practice moves pertaining to the knight and the queen in three innovative chess-based puzzle games. This app is called iChess Puzzles and is available both on the iPhone as well as the iPad.

You can find this app in the Education section of the App Store, where it is available for purchase for a mere 99 cents and it takes up just 5.3 MB of space on your iOS device. Let's take a look at its contents in detail.

User Interface & Layout

When you first launch iChess Puzzles, you will be taken back in time as the graphics as well as the font are eerily reminiscent of Wolfenstein 3D, which was one of the first videogames I ever played in my life! This is not a bad thing; it give the game a very old-school look and feel, of which I am a big fan.

The main interface consists of a menu which has three options for the three games, namely Eight Queens, Knight's Tour, and Four Knights. Underneath there is an information button which will tell you about the app.

When you tap on any of the games, you will be taken to another menu which will prompt you to tap Help for instructions regarding the game or Start to begin playing. There is also a Back option here. This will make it clear to you that this app is very intuitive.

The Three Games

Eight Queens entails placing eight queens on a chessboard in a way that ensures none of them can capture the other. In Knight's Tour, you musts move a knight from any starting point to every other square available on the chessboard. Each time you land on a square, it will be marked with a blue border.

Four Knights is an interesting game where you have to swap the Dark Knights and the White Knights in a unique chessboard.

Although each of the games are trickier than you might think, the gameplay is rather limited, because once you crack the games, there is no more novelty value left as you can easily conquer each one fairly easily, but each of the challenges also can be solved in different ways, so users can keep looking for new ways to “win” the games.
