iStoryTime Kids Books app review

Reviews

Introduction

We all know that reading to and with kids is one of the best things you can do for them but in order to keep them coming back for more you have to make the experience engaging and fun. The iStoryTime Kids Books app for your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone strives to do just that. The app follows a chameleon who is doing his best to find a brand-new kind of bug. Kids will be following along on the adventure and enjoy all kinds of neat features.

Join the Adventure

When kids launch the iStoryTime Kids Books app they will be able to join an adventure. This book gives kids an interactive reading experience with automatic navigation so even young ones can use it. As well there are a variety of narration options: choose from an adult voice, a child voice, or you can turn off the narration for more of a challenge and allow kids to do the reading. The text on the screen is meant to help young children put together what they are seeing on the page with the actual word and providing a learning opportunity. The app is recommended for kids ages two through seven, covering a wide range.

This app hasn't been updated in quite some time now; in fact, five years this month. With that said the three out of five star rating from users shouldn't come as a surprise. Reading through the various customer comments it seems kids enjoy the story but it doesn't necessarily keep them coming back time and time again. The other complaint from users is that it only contains one story and some were confused by the description thinking they would receive a collection.

The User Experience

As for the user experience it is fair, meaning it moves along easily, and navigation is child-friendly, but it just feels a bit lacking. There are plenty of book apps out there that offer so many cool added features, tools, activities, and games that really keep kids interested and even provide a learning experience. With this app it feels bare-bones. Parents can adjust a few of the settings but not many. The illustrations on the page are cute and fun but again feel a bit run-of-the-mill and don't stand out as unique.

The iStoryTime Kids Books app feels like a decent effort that just falls short and could do with some updates and enhancements.

Final Thoughts

The iStoryTime Kids Books app for your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone offers kids a cute reading experience. Unfortunately this one falls short in a number of areas and doesn’t really offer any unique features.
