DrumStudio app review
DrumStudio
Price: $1.99
For: iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
The DrumStudio app by Andrew Bluff is a mobile drum editor.
If you feel like it, play your drums along to music played on your iPod.
You can turn your iOS device into a mobile drum workstation where you can play your drums and record, then edit, playback, and export your songs.
This app is great for learners, actual drummers, and teachers. You can play your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad as if it’s a real drum kit. You can plug into an external electronic drum kit to edit your work! This app includes four rock and electro drum kits.
When you’re on the road, you can record your own beats, build your beats from scratch, play back your music, and add extras like drags, chokes, flams, and rolls if you like. Once you’re happy with what you’ve recorded, you can export real uncompressed audio, printable text files, or midi files. You can email your friends your latest recordings, or choose audiocopy or midicopy to share with other apps.
If you want to learn more about drums, you can import your own text files, your favorite song from thousands of tabs available, or import a midi file. You can open any email attachment directly and use different play speeds to help you learn the more difficult beats.
It doesn’t matter what level you play at; you can construct your own time signatures, or quantize to 32, 24, 16, 12, 8, or 4 grid sizing.
The app was updated to Version 1.4.0 on May 16, 2012. The newest version added drag, buzz rolls, flam, and cymbal chokes as well as 6/8 complex and compound time signatures.
The DrumStudio app has a total of 13 ratings with an average of four out of five stars. The current version has seven ratings with an average of four out of five stars. Two out of the three user feedback messages are positive; the “negative one” complains about the size of the interface.
