Osmos for iPad by Hemisphere lets you control an amoeba-like entity in a universe of other entities.

It’s a cut-throat world of eat or be eaten and you are but a hapless entity that must grow and survive or be absorbed other, larger entities. In this super addicting game you must plan out a strategy of patience and forethought.

The game starts with a bit of a tutorial on how to navigate the play area and how to absorb the other entities in order to grow to enormous proportions and become the largest most dominant entity in the space. As you grow larger, entities change from red to blue to indicate that you are now able to absorb them; be careful, however, as if you are the smaller entity they will absorb you and the game is over.

As you progress through this world the game gets harder and you start off smaller and smaller and must again become the largest. In some levels you are orbiting a sun like entity and you must control time by swiping left to slow down and right to speed up as you plan out your orbital collisions with smaller entities.

The ambiance provided by this game is spectacular and the game in general is very relaxing to say the least. The pace of the game can be quite calming and the soft colors seem to add to the effect. The graphics are actually very good and the interface is super simple.

Osmos was last updated to Version 2.2.0 February 7, 2013 and included the ability to save progress to iCloud, multiplayer interplay, and Facebook integration. There have been 218 ratings for this app with an average score of five out of five stars.

This app is super addicting. I seriously couldn’t put it down for more than an hour and even then it was only out of my hands for several minutes before I felt compelled to play it some more. Go and download it now, and you'll see what I mean.
