Price: Free

SmartMusic by MakeMusic, Inc. gives you a way to learn music by pushing you to realize your own talents.

Use this iPad app to view more sheet music for more than 22,000 ensemble and solo titles. You can record your music to listen to it whenever you like and practice with the more than 50 method books. These books feature a whopping 50,000 skill building exercises. There are titles from such major publishers as Alfred, Hal Leonard, Kjos, Belwin, and Barnhouse.

It should be noted that in order to use this app you will need a SmartMusic subscription.

You can play along with musical accompaniment for an incredible experience and then the app will actually score you based on how many notes you played correctly. The app will show the areas you need to improve in as well as what you're doing really well. There are tricks, tips, and customer support on the SmartMusic website. This app supports percussion, brass, woodwinds, string, and voice.

Additional features include solos that actually adjust to your speed automatically, a tuner, a metronome, and more. As well if this app is used as a teaching tool with students they can actually receive and submit SmartMusic created assignments.

SmartMusic was released on May 3, 2013 and currently has 45 customer ratings with an average rating of four and a half out of five stars.

This takes the typical educational music app and gives it a new and innovative spin really pushing that much further. I loved being able to record my musical talents to listen to and then check out the feedback from the app.

For: iPad with iOS 6.0 or later
