Introduction

Louie, teach me another language! HD by Millimages is an educational iPad app for children, which helps them learn another language. What's great is that kids can learn this other language while they're young by listening to the words combined with a picture dictionary. The app was updated on June 25, 2013 and is available in English, French, and Spanish.

User Experience

Built for young children this app is easy to use, features engaging photos, and a clean-looking user interface. When you launch the app for the first time you will be asked if you want to create a free account, by doing this you'll be able to unlock free games, episodes, and receive stars.

Features

In this app children will start to learn basic words in Spanish, French, and English. Of course the app puts a lot of emphasis on fun so that kids always feel encouraged and want to continue learning. There are episodes that they will watch that can be viewed with or without subtitles. As well there are games to play that helps with their ability to communicate and understand these other languages. The app contains 39 episodes in English, Spanish, and French all starring Louie, a cute little bunny that children will enjoy following along with. There is a picture dictionary that voices the words, educational games, and a recording mode.

The recording mode lets kids record their voice while speaking the words they have learned. This is a great way for them to show off their new language skills. There is also a loyalty program where the more the child learns and plays, the more stars they will be awarded. These stars can be used to unlock more games and videos.

There are a couple in-app purchases available of episodes. These episodes are available in a 10 pack priced at $4.99.

I really liked the idea of giving children an early start when it comes to learning another language. They can pick languages up so quickly when they're young so this was a great way to take advantage of that fact. The way the lessons were taught through episodes and games did a great job at capturing and keeping a child's attention. I also liked that stars were awarded the more they played so they could unlock more games and videos. That acted as a great incentive.

Cons

• If the child isn’t playing often they won’t get many stars so you will likely need to make the in-app purchase for more episodes instead
