mPlayer for YouTube - Free Unlimited Music app review: find all your favorite music

Reviews

Introduction

There is a whole lot of music available on YouTube but it’s not always easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. mPlayer for YouTube is a helpful app that organizes the music on YouTube into predefined categories. It also has strong integration with iTunes so you can preview a song or purchase it through iTunes as well. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Music for All Tastes

YouTube has its own search options so the mPlayer app is not an essential app but it does bring something a little different. If you like a certain type of music, but you’re not up-to-date with the latest songs in the genre then mPlayer is a great place to start. The app allows you to quickly access some of the latest songs at a glance, or listen to some great classics from your favorite band.

This really is a great app. I didn’t find much wrong with it: mPlayer does a great job of helping you find all the great music available on YouTube. There are ads but they only pop up occasionally upon starting the app and the app generally works very smoothly, although certain functions did freeze on me periodically. There aren’t really any instructions for using the app but it’s pretty straightforward; if you’ve used YouTube and iTunes before you won’t have any difficulty figuring it out. There’s also a professional version of the app available through an in-app purchase which apparently unlocks further functionality but it’s not immediately clear what exactly the upgrade does. An upgrade is mentioned on the developer's iTunes page but the description’s not in English so this isn’t really too helpful! This app will require 15 MB of free space on your iOS device.

How it Works

When you open the app you’ll see a page divided into three sections: on the left is the genre of music, in the middle is an iTunes preview section, and on the right are the YouTube videos of the music you’ve selected. These sections all work together. If for example you select Rock as your genre, the iTunes section will list the top 100 most searched items in that genre, the iTunes section will list all the songs associated with that item (whether it’s an album, an artist, or a band), and the YouTube section will list YouTube links to whatever item you’ve selected in iTunes. It’s all integrated very well.

The app isn’t limited to music: you can use it to search for books, audiobooks, and podcasts as well. It’s really designed to present YouTube videos in a friendlier format and for the most part it succeeds. You can also sign in with your Google account to access your YouTube channels and your favorites. Pretty much anything you can do in YouTube you can do from within the app. You can also select your country from within the app and the app will then display the most popular music and videos for your area.

Final Words

If you’re looking for a way to find great music on YouTube with minimal effort, mPlayer for YouTube is a great companion application you might want to take a look at. It does a good job of organizing available music by genre and presents you with a list of the most popular choices in that genre. This one’s definitely worth adding to your app collection.
