TennisSolo

Price: Free

For: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad with iOS 4.3 or later

TennisSolo by Anix LLC is an iOS app for tennis lovers.

Your iPhone will become a tennis racket when you download this app. You get three racket styles from which to choose, as well as different types of balls.

You can play TennisSolo wherever you are, with no need for an opponent. Practice your skills and don’t worry about losing balls or trying to find a court on which to play.

You’ll find an odd twist in this game, though: if the ball slips off the racket, scream. What the developers call the Sharapova Effect, the app will compensate for the miss if the microphone registers a loud scream. Move your iPhone towards the ball and bounce it up higher.

The app is integrated with Game Center so you can register your high score and show off to all of your friends.

The physics of the game makes it feel like you are actually controlling a racket and trying to keep the ball bouncing off the racket. The high-res sounds and 3D effects work together to create a really fun tennis simulator game.

The app was released mid-December 2012 and is available in English, French, Japanese, and German. TennisSolo has 53 ratings with an average of five out of five stars.

While I am not a huge tennis fan, I find the idea of this app interesting. I would be hesitant to use it in public, though, since screaming isn’t always an acceptable public behavior. If you plan on playing this at home or where you don’t mind screaming in order to save your ball, then go ahead and try out the app today.
