Beam for reddit app review: an excellent reddit client app

Reviews

Introduction

Newsreaders and blogging directories are great ways to keep up-to-date on all kinds of interesting facts posted by everyday ordinary people just like you and me. That’s the beautiful thing about blogs: anyone with something to say can create their own, free of charge. Sites like reddit act as aggregators of information, including everything from blog entries to Wikipedia pages. Beam is a client app for reddit that provides a nice clean user interface for viewing all your favorite reddit posts. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

There are a few different client apps for reddit available for download from the App Store but Beam is definitely one of the better ones. The user interface is user-friendly and makes viewing your favorite reddit themes a breeze. Anyone that uses reddit on a regular basis will know how busy the website is; it’s not the most user friendly website around. What it does have going for it is a lot of great content. Beam allows you to access all the great reddit content you’re used to and it presents it in a nice clean package that will enhance your reddit experience.

The only thing this app is really missing is a user’s manual. There are no instructions at all so if you’ve never used reddit before some of the features in this app may be a little bit confusing. One distinctive feature of reddit is its unusual names for topic categories: it’s all part of the reddit culture but that isn’t really made clear in this app. If you’re new to reddit you might want to learn all you can about it before you try this app out. The Beam app will require 6.1 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How it Works

When you open the Beam app for the first time you’ll notice what looks like a news feed and that’s essentially what it is. Each item in the news feed is posted there by a reddit member who wanted to share something they found interesting. It’s a popular platform for bloggers to share their posts but there’s a lot of other information on the site as well. By default the app will show you items that are most popular and placed on their front page, but you can choose to view by topic area as well. To switch your feed you just tap on the menu icon in the top left corner and then tap on the topic you want to view in your feed.

If you’re a reddit member you can log on so that you can comment on postings by tapping on the icon in the bottom right-hand corner. The app also has a search feature so you can search for a topic you’re interested in as well. If you’re logged in you can choose to subscribe to certain feeds as well so you’re always up-to-date on your favorite topics.

Final Words

If you use reddit on a regular basis it’s a good idea to find a great client app because reddit’s own website is not the most user-friendly site. Beam is a great choice if you’re looking for a reddit client app. It features a nice clean user interface and some great tools to make your reddit surfing a lot more fun.
