Furby

Price: Free

For: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad with iOS 4.2.1 or later

Furby by Hasbro, Inc. is an app that lets you translate your Furby’s words. You can also feed your Furby new and interesting food.

With this app you’ll get more than 100 food items for your new friend to eat. You’ll find out very shortly which foods it prefers compared to the ones it doesn’t. The deli has more than 60 ingredients you can assemble to make Furby a delicious sandwich.

To translate what your Furby says, just hold your iOS device up to Furby’s mouth when it talks. You’ll see speech bubbles with the Furbish words on the left and the English version on the right. You can tap either the Furbish or the English phrases to hear them spoken aloud, too.

The built-in Dictionary is a complete Furbish to English (or a supported language) dictionary, which will let you practice your Furbish and maybe even learn a whole new language, even when your Furby isn’t nearby. There are vocabulary illustrations and you can even hear audible Furbish to learn the tougher words. Kids will love having a secret language they can use.

If you don’t yet have a Furby, you can still use the dictionary.

The app was updated to Version 1.2.0 on December 8, 2012. This version added Dutch, German, Japanese, and Spanish to the available languages. It is also available in French, Italian, and Russian. The app currently has 239 ratings with an average of four out of five stars. Feedback comments are all positive aside from users wanting iPhone 5 support.

I wish I’d had this app back in the day when I had an original Furby. Now I’m considering buying a new one for my daughter so I can check out the translation feature.
