Mino Saga app review: a challenging puzzle game for everyone

Reviews

Introduction

Mino Saga by Tomislav Kadazebek is a puzzle game in the Tetris style with its own unique twists. With Tetris the concept was pretty simple – puzzle pieces of various different shapes and sizes would travel down the screen and it was your job to spin them around and place them so that they fit neatly together and, when you completed a row, it would disappear from the screen allowing you to continue on with your game. Mino Saga features the same types of puzzle pieces that you’re familiar with from Tetris, but it introduces its own spin on this classic style of game. It’s challenging and a whole lot of fun. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Solve Challenging Puzzle Patterns

Puzzle games are extremely popular with iOS users of all ages. They’re a great way to kill time on a rainy day, on the commute home, or any other time you’ve got a few moments to spare. These types of games have been around for a while and Tetris is arguably the grandfather of them all. This game was first introduced in the mid 1980’s and has continued to entertain people across the globe for more than thirty years. A game with that kind of lasting power obviously spawns a lot of spin-offs and although it’s hard to improve upon a game with that kind of lasting power, Mino Saga does a pretty good job. It does this by introducing a completely new element to this type of game in the form of different patterns to solve that ultimately makes the game a lot more challenging.

Surprisingly, for a free puzzle game there are no ads in this one, but there are in-app purchases. If there’s a certain puzzle piece you need or if you want to alter the puzzle board there are tools to help you with this, but they can only be used infrequently. The in-app purchases allow you to recharge these items quicker. This app will require 40.9 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How to Play

The game features 200 different levels, but all of them are locked except the first one until you’ve successfully completed them. You can begin a game on any unlocked level if you don’t want to start over from the beginning by accessing it from the game map. If you complete that level successfully you’ll be able to begin your next game from that level instead of starting over.

Compared to the traditional game of Tetris this game really has a lot going on. Each level includes a different puzzle pattern which is marked out by a set of grey tiles. Your job is to slot your pieces into these grey tiles until the grey tiles are completely covered by puzzle pieces; thus completing the level. The first couple of levels are pretty simple, but it gets a lot more difficult very quickly.

The other feature that makes Mino Saga a little more interesting than your standard Tetris game are the extra tools you have available to you to help you to complete each level. There’s a question mark tool that can actually change the shape of puzzle pieces for you, a hammer for smashing away damaged pieces, and dynamite that can actually change the shape of the board. Each game is timed though so you have to be quick are all of these tools won’t be of much use to you. All of these extra features work well together to produce an exciting game that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
