Control Your Habits

There are many different apps you can choose from to help you track your habits. All you have to do is take a quick look through the App Store and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. I counted dozens of them, so you've definitely got lots of choice.

Best iphone and ipad apps

How do you figure out which ones are worthwhile? It’s generally simply a case of trial and error to see what you like, but let me save you the trouble HabitBull – Habit Tracker is one of the best apps for this purpose you’ll find anywhere in the App Store.

The HabitBull app works great and there aren’t many issues with it – you don’t have to deal with any ads, the app doesn’t stall, freeze, or crash. There are guides to help you learn how to use the app, there is an excellent FAQ’s section for quick answers to questions you may have, and there’s a great navigation bar that makes working your way around the app simple.

The only real issue I encountered with this app was that the free version is somewhat limited – you can only track five habits at any one time. If you upgrade to the premium app through an in-app purchase you can track up to 100 different habits at a time. I suppose it depends on you whether or not it’s worthwhile to upgrade to the premium version. The HabitBull app will require 20.8 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How It Works

When you open the HabitBull app for the first time you’ll be able to view a simple introduction that explains the basics of how the app works. If you want more details, or you want to revisit how things work, you can simply tap on the more icon on the right-hand side of the menu bar located at the bottom of the app. Here you’ll find quick access to the apps quick guide, as well as its FAQ page – all of the answers you’re looking for are here.

When you’re ready to start entering your habits you can simply tap on the habits icon in the bottom left corner on the menu bar. Any habits you’ve already saved will be displayed on the screen in front of you, if you haven’t added any habits you can do so by tapping on the add icon in the top right corner of your screen.

The HabitBull app will then walk you through a series of questions to help you set up your habit and how you’d like to track it – it’s a simple process that takes about 30 seconds. As they point out, habits take approximately 66 days to form, so if you’re going to take this seriously don’t expect quick solutions.

Once you set up a few habits tracking them is pretty simple. You can simply tap on the habit, which will bring up a calendar, and if you tap once on the current day that indicates that you followed the habit successfully, if you tap again that indicates that you’ve been unsuccessful, and if you tap one more time it will clear out the information so that you can start again.

You can view habits based on a daily calendar, a weekly calendar, or a monthly calendar. If you perform a habit successfully more than one day in a row you’ll create a streak, and the app can track on a weekly or monthly basis how long your streaks are.

Habit tracking app has very flexible goals options like: number of times per day/week/month, only on certain days of the week etc. For example: 30 push ups every Mon-Fri, go to the gym 2 times per week, or even every 2 days. Also habit building app has powerful reminders - multiple times per day, sound and vibrate optional.

The other cool feature of this is that it displays the percentage of your goal that’s complete. Once you achieve a streak of 66 days this percentage will reach 100. These great visual cues they provide you make tracking your habits easy and help to keep you focused.
