PixelPoint app review: a multipurpose easy to use photo editing app

Reviews

Introduction

With all of the photo editing apps available in the App Store you’d think it would be easy to find one that’s user-friendly and works well, but unfortunately the App Store is full of far too many mediocre photo editing apps. It’s not unusual to come across a photo editing app that sounds like the real deal with all kinds of wonderful filters, special effects, and other enhancements – more often than not what you end up with is an app full of ads and pop-ups that’s barely usable. It becomes a frustrating exercise trying to find one that doesn’t burden you with all of these unwanted features. PixelPoint is a photo transformation app with some pretty decent features that doesn’t bog you down with ads and pop-ups. The PixelPoint is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Frustration Free Photo Editing

Most photo editing apps are going to include many of the same features: they allow you to add special effects that can make your photos look retro, cartoon style, and sketch style just to name a few. They also will generally let you play with the brightness of your pictures, the contrast in your pictures, the sharpness of your pictures, and many will even let you add some frames to your pictures. Most of them do this pretty well, but the vast majority of free ones are full of ads. That’s what separates PixelPoint from its competitors. It doesn’t necessarily have a whole lot more features than other photo editing apps, but it’s a lot less frustrating to use.

While it’s nice to find a photo editing app that’s completely free of ads it does have a couple of issues. For one thing there are a lot of features in this app that are only available through in-app purchase. Each one of these locked features will generally cost about $0.99, and there’s quite a few of them. The other thing that’s a little disappointing in this app is its lack of instructions. PixelPoint doesn’t even have a quick walk-through – you’re going to have to learn this one completely by trial and error. The PixelPoint app will require 62.8 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How It Works

When you boot up the app you’ll be given three options on the main screen: you can access your photo library, tap on discover which will actually open in your Facebook page, or upgrade to the full version. You’ll also notice a small camera icon in the bottom right corner. If you’d like to take a new photo to use within the app this icon will allow you to access the camera function. Once you’ve chosen a photo to edit either from within your library, or a new photo that you’ve just taken, you’ll be able to access the edit section of the app.

Using the PixelPoint app’s various edit features is pretty simple. You’ll find all of the available tools on a sliding menu bar at the bottom of the app. There are 12 different tools to choose from including: effects, crop, rotate, saturation, hue, and sharpness to name a few. To access any one of these features you simply tap on its icon. Most of the tools work the same way with the exception of the effects tool. When using the effects tool you simply tap on the effect you want to add to your photo and the effect will be applied. When using most of the other tools you’ll see a sliding bar that will change your picture by varying degrees. Whatever changes you make, to save your changes you simply tap on the check mark in the top right corner after you’ve used a tool.

Once you’re done editing your photo you can share it several different ways. To do this you tap on the share button in the top right corner of the app. Here you’ll find eight different options for sharing your photo creation. You can simply tap on the one you want to use, follow the instructions on the screen, and your app will be shared with friends and family. You have the option of sharing your photo through most of the major social media apps including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram.

Final Words

PixelPoint is a simple, yet serviceable photo editing app. It has all of the main tools you’ll find in most other photo editing apps and it works very well. Perhaps, the best thing about this app is that it’s completely ad free – that’s not as common as you’d hope in this type of app. The only drawback is that a lot of the features are locked unless you’ve upgraded to the premium version, although there is still quite a lot you can do with the free version of the app.
