CoCoCal app review: a calendar viewer for any iOS device

Reviews

Introduction

Every once in a while you come across an app that simply makes you wonder what it’s really all about. Let’s face it, developers are always trying to come up with the app that you’ll find you can’t live without and in the process they’ll often distribute a product that’s subpar. CoCoCal is an app designed to provide you with a different way to view your calendar events, making your life easier by presenting your personal calendar information in a simple format.

A Simplified Calendar App

There are all kinds of calendar apps to choose from within the App Store. So if you’re going to make a switch from the more popular calendar apps such as Google’s and Apple’s it’s probably going to take something special. There are some pretty decent calendar apps that really do improve the functionality of what you can do with these more popular apps, but CoCoCal simply falls short in this area. This app does integrate easily with your existing calendar apps – it just doesn’t do anything to significantly improve them.

One of the biggest issues I had with this app was the tiny fonts they use on their calendar. Unless you’re someone who enjoys eyestrain, this in itself is enough to deter you from using this app. The other thing I didn’t like about this app was that they don’t provide you with any guidance when you first open the app. If you look carefully there is a help section you can use, but it provides minimal information and really isn’t and that helpful. This app will require 0.5 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How It Works

When You Open CoCoCal the calendar is displayed automatically and the one thing this app does have going for it is that it will quickly recognize your devices existing calendars and import the information for you. As with any calendar app you can add items to your calendar from within the app. This is done by tapping on the plus icon located next to the settings icon and it’s pretty simple to use – it will bring up a simple form for you to enter all of the information concerning your calendar item. Once you save this it will then be integrated into your calendar and viewable.

CoCoCal does not clearly separate one-month from another – in fact it just sort of blends dates in together in one continuous stream that you can view by swiping left to right. It’s not the most intuitive way to view a calendar. The one feature that is kind of cool is that you can pinch and zoom in and out to open or close a day, week, or month so that you can view more detailed information about it.When You Open CoCoCal the calendar is displayed automatically and the one thing this app does have going for it is that it will quickly recognize your devices existing calendars and import the information for you. Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Automatically imports your existing calendar information
  • Allows you to pinch and zoom in and out on different sections of the calendar
  • Includes a basic help section

Cons

  • The fonts included in the app are too small
  • Help section is not easy to find and doesn’t provide a lot of information
  • Does not provide easily recognizable separation between months

Final Words

While CoCoCal does introduce some tools that you won’t find in other calendar apps, it doesn’t provide enough new features to convince me to use this instead of the calendar app I now use. On top of that, the fonts used on the calendar are extremely small and difficult to read.
