Counting Together! an app  By Barrett Productions, LLC. is an app that teaches kids “subitizing” and addition.

While it may not be hard to find educational apps, finding ones that capture and keep your child's attention is a whole other story. This app aims to do that by offering incredible 3D graphics and music that will have the kids hooked. It can be played alone or with up to four different players.

Subitizing is the ability to recognize the number of objects without counting. For example, you have five crayons lying on the table. An adult would be able to quickly see there are five objects whereas a child will need to count these crayons using his or her fingers. The app tries to teach children the basics of counting without the need for fingers.

The lessons of the app are driven home through visuals and sound effects each time the child gets the right answer. This helps to motivate and gives a full understanding of how the answer is formulated.

You can choose to purchase the upgrade to the Plus Version, which will give you more difficulty levels, the ability to play with up to four players (without the in-app purchases you can only play with a maximum of two players), more player sounds, a compete mode, and the ability to measure your child's performance.

Counting Together! was updated to Version 1.0.2 on January 9, 2013. The update made bug fixes. The app has 12 customer ratings with an average of 4.5 out of five stars. Feedback is all positive.

I think this app is definitely well-presented and will help teach a lot of kids how to subitize.

For: iPad with iOS 6.0 or later
