Airport by FLIO app review: change your airport experience

Reviews

Introduction

While most people love the idea of going away on a vacation, the time you spend in the airport isn’t exactly a high point in the vacation experience. What if we said there is an app that is trying to challenge the way you see the airport and transform your experience for the better? That’s exactly what the Airport by FLIO app is all about. This app can be used on your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone and is described as the "global airport app".

So what exactly does that mean? Well it encompasses a few great things in one such as providing you with information on free access to WiFI, arrival and departure times, deals and promotions for the shops and restaurants in the airport, plus other helpful information. This kind of app can really help those who travel for business on a regular basis as well. It can make the rather exhausting travels a little less so.

Addressing a Variety of Airport Complaints and Negatives

The Airport by FLIO app really aims to address all kinds of negative aspects of airports and common complaints that travelers seem to have. Obviously no-one enjoys sitting around in an airport for hours. We all wish we could just arrive, board our flight immediately, and get on our way, but unfortunately that isn’t the case. For many people the airport experience is not only boring and frustrating, it can also be the cause of all kinds of stress and anxiety.

Through this app you'll have access to free WiFi. How many times have you wanted to use the airport WiFi only to be frustrated by filling out the sign-in form? This app removes those steps instead you'll just have instant access to the Internet. As well the app features a large amount of information and tips that is airport specific. The idea is that you'll be able to navigate the airport with ease, find what you need without walking around in circles, and just make the experience as pleasant as possible.

Of course, one of the most popular thing travelers do while passing time in the airport is grab something to eat and walk through the various shops. The app can help you out here too by providing you with discount offers on these items.

Obviously, no airport app would be complete without current departure and arrival times, so not to worry the app contains this information as well. You'll be able to see the time as well as the gate, again taking stress out of the situation.

On a Quest

The Airport by FLIO app has been developed by Air Media Service and it is clear the focus was on giving travelers the tools and information they most commonly seek. The developers set out to make the airport experience stress-free and enjoyable.

"FLIO works in every major airport and doesn't cost you a cent," says the developers’. "FLIO helps you to get around, connects you to the airport's WiFi, gives you access to lounges, and has great deals for food and shopping."

The app has been getting all kinds of attention, as it seems the developers really understood their market. It has now been featured in Lifehacker, The New York Times, L.A. Times, Life is Suite, and the Eye for Travel Mobile Innovation Awards gave it the "Best Mobile Travel Solution" award.

The developers have managed to partner with some pretty big companies, which not only helps to provide all those deals and information, but makes the app that much more appealing. Now with all that said, the app is still catching on around the world so it isn't supported at every airport. You will find that most major airports around the globe are supported though, so chances are you will be able to use it. Developers are working hard to keep the list of airports growing.

What's great is that the moment you arrive at the airport the app will instantly send you push notifications of deals and benefits that are available there. This is a huge timesaver as you won’t have to try to find them on your own. This also means you'll be able to tell right away if that airport is supported by FLIO.

The User Experience

As someone who has traveled through a fair amount of airports throughout the world, I understand exactly how stressful and frustrating it can be. Exploring the app revealed all kinds of hidden “treasures” if you will that can truly alter your airport experience. Things such as the map of the airport, information on where to charge your laptop, the nearest washroom facilities, and more really can take that stress out of the experience that you’re all too used to.

The user interface is incredibly clean and modern adding to the experience even further. The menus are well laid out, you can search for an airport manually, or let it automatically detect your location. There is a large emphasis on making your life as a traveler easier.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The app is ideal for frequent and infrequent travelers
  • It supports a large amount of airports worldwide
  • The app is very user-friendly
  • It instantly connects you to the airport’s free WiFi service
  • Find information about discounts and deals on food and shopping
  • Get departure and arrival information

Cons

  • The biggest con is that not all airports are supported yet, but this will change over time
  • There is no guarantee there are deals to be found each time you visit the airport
  • There had been some issues with the WiFi access tool, but it has now been improved upon
