Cinco app review: discover new entertainment and dining options

Reviews

Introduction

While having a night at home is relaxing and quiet, it's not always what you're in the mood for. Perhaps, you're itching to go hang out and find something fun to do, or maybe you're in the mood to check out a restaurant that you've never visited before. It doesn’t matter if you’re new in town or you’ve lived there your whole life, sometimes you just feel like trying something new. The Cinco app for your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone has been developed for this exact reason.

The best iPhone apps for local places of interest

With the help of the Cinco app, you’ll be able to find all kinds of fun things to do near and around you, as well as dining options that you may not have otherwise known about. It helps you to broaden your circle when it comes to activities, socializing, and dining out. Of course, there is much more to it than just that, so we’re here to take a closer look.

A Specific Goal in Mind

Here's an app that is really exciting to check out as it provides you with a simple way to discover new places to hang out and dine. The developers, Cinco LLC, went into the app with a clear focus in mind and that was to provide something that is helpful and interactive - the combination that seems to please users the most.

"Cinco is a new, better way to find the best places to eat, drink, and play through dynamic social recommendations powered by people you know and trust," says Cinco LLC. In explaining the app the developer states that it allows users to "connect with your friends, create and share your top five favorite places in various categories, and you will instantly know the best place for the specific occasion."

It is really a two-prong style of app. First, you're able to gather information from it and second you're able to share information with others. It's a free-flowing process in that sense.

Cinco LLC is enjoying such positive response from users that it is now expanding and taking this idea to a different category. Cinco for business is the developer's next project which is meant to "help build and maintain your business with a real connection to your customers."

Finding that Perfect Place

Finding that perfect place to hang out or eat is really quite easy. Launch the app and get ready to perform a search. The app is able to use your current location if you like to find nearby options. If you'd rather you can perform a specific search of a club, bar, or restaurant. Your results are then shown in list form, as well as plotted on a map so you know exactly where each location is. As you scroll through the list, just tap on the "+" sign to get more information about the location. You can view such information as the address, its score, how far away it is from you, comments from friends, and comments from tastemakers.

As you become familiar with the app you can then put together your very own top five list and change the order around any time. By making your list you become a "Tastemaker" and can help others make informed choices.

The Social Aspect

The Cinco app has a real social aspect to it, which not only makes it fun but all the more relevant. As you read lists from other Tastemakers you can add them as friends, so you can stay informed of the recommendations they are making on their lists. These lists can span across 20 different categories, making it easier for you to find what you want and for you to post your own list.

If you're busy browsing through the app just for fun, and don't have plans to go out that day/evening you can always mark locations as a "Must Try" so you don't forget about them later. This handy little feature works as a concierge in a way because each time you’re feeling bored, and are looking to try something new you can just check out your list of Must Try locations and pick from there.

Many users have compared this app to Yelp, but there are some subtle differences, such as the user interface. The user interface in the Cinco app is pretty basic and is easy enough to navigate. It would be nice to see it improved upon as the app continues to grow in popularity giving it a sleeker and more modern vibe. Users also really like the fact they can view recommendations their own friends have created so it’s not anonymous posters, such as you would find in Yelp. When you know the person making the recommendation, it adds credibility to what they have posted.

Pros and Cons
