Create app review: a mobile creativity and graphic design app

Reviews

Introduction

Some of us are born with innate artistic skills, but most of us have to work really hard to explore our creative side – that doesn’t mean the less naturally creative type can’t still come up with some fantastic ideas and designs. If there’s one thing that the App Store is great for, its providing tools that help us to tap into our artistic side. Keeping track of them all can be a little bit difficult – in fact most of the great graphic design apps I find are purely by accident. One that’s definitely caught my attention is the Create app by Anything Is. It’s is a truly innovative creativity and graphic design app that has a lot of potential. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Unlocking the Developer

It’s always interesting trying to find out a little bit about the developer behind the app and that’s especially true when you come across a developer with a little bit of imagination and creativity. This app was developed by a company called Anything Is and, with a name like that, it’s not hard to see that creativity is the central theme that they base all of their ideas on.

While it may seem strange, I really encourage you to visit this developer’s website. They’ve actually got a fun and interactive message in the form of a newsletter that sort of makes you feel like you’re carrying on a conversation while it encourages people to explore their creative side. It’s one of the most creative website introductions to an app I’ve ever seen and it really does encourage you to give your own creative side a try.

According to the developer, the reason for creating this app was so that people could be creative anywhere and anytime. They wanted to create a program with all of the sophisticated tools you’ll need to help you with the creation process and they’ve done a great job of that. They believe that smart phones and tablets are a great way to become more creative and they strongly encourage switching to these types of devices and leaving the conformity of your laptop behind.

A Comprehensive Design Tool

As we’ve already noted, there are a ton of different design applications within the App Store, but almost all of them have some form of limitation or another. What separates Create from the pack is its comprehensive set of tools to help you be as creative as possible. No matter what type of work you’re engaged in, you’ll always struggle if you don’t have the proper tools and that’s no different in the creative design sphere.

Create has an intuitive user interface which really helps you to explore your creative side – even its basic way of handling a quick guide of the app is different. When you run the app for the first time you’ll see little arrows pointing you in the direction of where to go to get started and these little clues and tips will continue as you progress through the app – it’s an interesting way of doing things and it works quite well.

Perhaps, the only real drawback of this app is that the free version is a bit limited as you can only save a select number of projects. You can purchase unlimited access as an in-app purchase as well as some other features. What really amazed me though was the number of different options to choose from within the app – the limits to your creativity are really entirely up to you. It doesn’t matter if you can draw or not as they provide you with a long list of stock items that you can use to create your own logos and pictures. This app will require 29.6 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How to Create

Getting creative with this app is not only easy it’s also fun. To get started you simply tap on the plus icon at the bottom of the screen which will begin a new project. You can then either add shapes, text, or lines – the choice is yours. As someone that’s fairly limited in their artistic ability, I really liked the shapes tool as it has countless choices that you can use to create your own graphic designs even if you have no clue how to draw.

If you are a little more creative than someone like me, then you also have the option to add lines and draw just about anything you want. If you choose this option you can control the thickness of your brush strokes, the opacity of your strokes, and you can even change the colors. There are quite simply so many tools to choose from within this app that you’re bound to spend a lot of time exploring your creative side with it.

Sometimes, even with all the tools that this type of app provides, you still may be struggling for ideas on how to move forward with the creative process – if that describes you then this app also provides a simple solution. When you tap on the plus icon to begin a new project you’ll also notice a little play button in the right-hand corner. If you tap on that it brings up a whole host of instructional videos and various other tools that can help you to get started. It’s a very comprehensive section and will easily answer all of your questions.
