Merriam-Webster Dictionary HD by Merriam-Webster, Inc. is a dictionary app that has been specially designed for the iPad.

Having a dictionary app on your iPad is one of those things that will prove its worth time and time again. This particular dictionary app is from one of the most well-respected dictionaries out there.

Of course you'll be given definitions to all the words you're looking for but what's really cool is that you can also do a voice search so if you don't know how to spell the word.

There are antonyms, synonyms, a Word of the Day, example sentences, favorites, and more features. The app is meant for educational purposes of course but also helps people by building their vocabulary knowledge and usage.

Because the app is free it is ad-supported; however, the content really makes up for it.

Other features include audio pronunciations, a scrolling index specifically for the iPad, and recent history that will keep a record of all the words you've been looking up.

The new version has addressed issues with the display as well as fixed content where needed.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary HD was updated on Oct. 31, 2012 and has 325 customer ratings with an average rating of four out of five stars.

This app really felt as though I was holding the dictionary in my hands. Looking up words was easy and quick but thanks to all the added features on the iPad, I felt like I was getting a lot more than just a dictionary.
