iA Writer by Information Architects Inc. is an app designed to make writing efficient and simple.

iA Writer is an innovative writing program that lets you focus more on your writing and less on pesky formatting and complicated settings. The only thing standing between you and your literary masterpiece is your writer's block.

The customized typeface is specifically designed for the iPad and makes typing feel very natural and smooth. With few distractions on the display there is plenty of room for you writing which is nice as some apps are able to clutter up a display in a hurry making your content feel crowded. There is a nice function called focus mode which zooms in on the current three lines of which you are editing.

Currently language support for this app is limited to the Latin alphabet, Greek, and Russian. There is no support for complicated characters such as Hebrew, Japanese, and Korean. All writings can be exported as plain text files using UTF-8 encoding meaning that you use the text in any other text editing program once you have exported it. There is also support for Dropbox which allows you back up all your files from your device to the Dropbox online storage.

This app was updated to Version 1.7.1 on October 29, 2012 and included some optimizations and Dropbox improvements. There are currently 124 ratings with an average score of 4.5 out of five stars.

iA Writer is an excellent writing app. I like how the interface is clean and un-cluttered making it feel much like a blank page of paper waiting to be filled with ink.
