1001 Attempts

Price: $0.99

1001 Attempts by Everplay is a crazily arcade game for your iOS device.

Are you sick of all those apps that say they’re addictive, but when you download them, you find them simply ho-hum? This one won’t disappoint. It may spew all the same buzzwords as those apps that let you down, but don’t let that stop you from trying it out. This one is seriously a must-have: if it was a real arcade game, you’d be out of quarters and raiding your coin jar just so you could play more.

This app has you playing the purple blob, stuck in a room full of enemies; fiery flying heads, missiles, buzz-saws, spikes, lasers, and more. All you have to do is survive.

Someone left an anti-gravity pack lying on the floor, so you can grab that and fly up and down and around, collecting gems as you fly to safety. Don’t collect gems if you don’t want, but if you do, you’ll earn a higher score.

After you die for the first time – and you will – you’ll feel guilty. Then you’ll hit the “restart” button and go again. And again. And again. Finally, you’ll start to notice patterns: how long the lasers last, the space you have between missiles, and more. Soon you’ll start to live longer and longer before you die. But you’ll still die, eventually…and you’ll start again.

1001 Attempts was updated to Version 1.1.1 on April 12, 2013. The update fixed a bug in the alerts feature. The current version has 26 customer ratings with an average of 4.5 out of five stars. Feedback comments are all positive.

This is an insanely addictive game. You want to keep trying, “just one more try” – except that turns into five, or six, or more tries before you can finally set down the iPhone. I think the controls could have been done better, and maybe updates will fix that.

For: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad with iOS 4.3 or later. 1001 Attempts is optimized for iPhone 5.
