Star Chart

Price: $2.99 (as of May 7, 2013, marked down to Free)

Star Chart by Feel Great Publishing Limited is an amazingly awesome app that will put a star chart in your pocket. It’s free for a limited time, so get it now!

If you’ve ever been outside at night and wondered which stars you could see, or the names of the constellations, then you need this app. It’s super easy to use!

Just download the app, launch it, and point it at the sky. As long as your device is Augmented Reality-ready (if it has a built-in compass, it is), you can use this app. It will tell you what stars, constellations, and planets are in your view.

The app uses a 3D universe, GPS technology, and high-tech functions to calculate the real-time location of all celestial bodies in the sky. You can even use this app during the day!

Want to know what the sky will look like in 10,000 years? How about 10,000 years ago? You can using the Time Shift feature.

Other features of the app include the ability to explore all of the planets in the solar system, all 88 constellations, the complete Messier catalogue of deep sky objects, a powerful zoom function, and the ability to use finger gestures to scroll around.

Star Chart was updated to Version 3.0 on May 2 2013. The update added new music, simplified the user interface, and made other bug fixes and tweaks. The current version has 67 customer ratings with an average of 4.5 out of five stars. Feedback comments are positive.

I downloaded this app the other day and I’ve been playing with it off and on ever since. It’s really going to come in handy this summer out at the cottage.

For: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad with iOS 4.3 or later. Star Chart is optimized for iPhone 5.
