Reviews

Sygic Middle East: GPS Navigation

Price: $9.99

Sygic Middle East: GPS Navigation by Sygic a. s. contains a GPS navigation system for use in the Gulf Region, allowing you to find points of interest, speed cameras, and many other features. The best part is that the app uses GPS entirely so there is no need for an Internet connection, making this app the perfect traveling companion for while you are on the road.

Sygic Middle East: GPS Navigation was updated to version 1.5 in mid-May of 2013. This app is available in many languages.

User Experience
This app has an incredibly easy-to-use interface with very straightforward navigation around the various features. The graphics and general layout of the maps are exactly what you would expect from a TomTom GPS system, which makes for a familiar appearance and a nicely streamlined system. Points of interest on the maps are clearly laid-out making it easy enough to find your destination.

Features
This app includes TomTom maps for Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Omar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates.

Directions are provided audibly through voice narration, including road names, so you can keep your attention focused solely on the road. When you select a destination, you will be presented with three possible routes which can easily be edited using the drag-and-drop function. The maps also include waypoints, dynamic lane guidance so you know you’re on the right track, and speed camera warnings to prevent you from being caught off guard.

Update Info
Sygic Middle East: GPS Navigation is currently running on version 1.5. The latest update included the addition of brand new maps with even greater coverage. The update also added drag-and-drop functionality to make plotting a route easier, and various improvements have also been made to the Points of Interest search facility.

Customer Ratings and Feedback Comments
Sygic Middle East: GPS Navigation currently has 17 customer ratings with an average rating of four out of five stars. Customer reviews have generally been quite positive.

Personal Comments by Reviewer
Sygic apps are usually developed to a very high-standard and Sygic Middle East: GPS Navigation is no exception. As soon as you start up this app, you realize how simplistic the navigation is and how quickly you’ll be able to learn its features.

The maps themselves appear to be very accurate with a massive amount of detail, even in less built-up areas. There are a few little extra features I love, like being able to run the audio from the app through your car audio system using Bluetooth or a cable. This is ideal for someone who is driving on a noisy road as it enables you to hear the directions a lot more clearly so you don’t end up taking a wrong turn.

The only negative aspect of this app is that it is a battery drainer as it uses GPS all the time. If you're concerned about your battery life, don't download this app.

Pros
• Available in a large number of languages
• Includes TomTom maps for six Gulf Region countries
• Uses GPS, therefore requiring no Internet connection
• Free updates
• Familiar TomTom layout with voice-narrated navigation

Cons
• Use of GPS tends to drain battery life very quickly, making use of this app less feasible for long-distance travel

For: iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad with iOS 4.3 or later. Sygic Middle East: GPS Navigation is optimized for iPhone 5.
