'Rogue Sky' Thrusts Its Way to The Top

Rogue Sky by Chillingo is a fanciful puzzle game featuring hot air balloons bolstered by great visual style and game play.You star as Pumpkin, a rogue class hot air balloon, who is shot down by a group of Howler hot air balloons (aptly named by the sounds they make). The game sets you on missions to navigate Pumpkin through a cloud maze to finish above the cloud line. Along the way you pick up points and hearts to help you survive the flight to the top. The first four missions are tutorials to acquaint you with the simple game play mechanics. Pumpkin is controlled by two thruster buttons on the bottom left and right corners of the screen. Pressing and holding one of the thrusters pulls Pumpkin left or right. Holding down both thrusters boosts Pumpkin straight up. Double tapping a thruster shoots cannon balls at enemies. Level five is when you’re able to attack enemy hot air balloons that, along with explosive mines, act as obstacles in your path. Besides shooting them down, you can nudge enemies into the dark storm clouds that act as walls and give them a good zap. Do that one or two times and the balloon bursts into flames and sinks out of view. However, be careful as you can easily get hit turning and after three shocks, Pumpkin’s grin turns upside down bursting your balloon.  

The background music and visual design of the game perfectly complements the charm and whimsical nature of the game. The music is mostly comprised of orchestra instruments and carries the excitement and tension when navigating tight spaces between storm clouds. The art style is cute with Pumpkin’s black and orange Jack-O-Lantern face set against the mostly blue and white background of the sky. Rogue Sky is an excellent game for those who crave a challenging arcade flying game set in a beautiful graphical environment.  We highly recommend picking up Rogue Sky.
