Join a team of adventurers under the sea with Squids by The Game Bakers. This game is a mix of turn based strategy and RPG elements with an engaging plot line of heroic squids who do battle against an ancient ooze that is corrupting all the sea critters. While The Game Bakers are a new game development studio, their debut iOS game app is a visually stunning and dynamic creation. Squids focuses on turn based strategy and the customization of characters. The game’s story progresses in scenes where the map is structured like a maze to get one of the squids from point A to point B or to an arena to take on spawning enemies. The team is comprised of four cephalopods per story chapter. Between scenes you can visit your base and use the Shop menu to get items such as hats catered specifically to different roles to boost stats or items that will revive if a fellow squid gets K.O.ed in the game. There is also a Team menu to swap out characters as you gain new recruits for your cause. Arranging the squids from left to right will be the starting order in which they play. Similar to many RPG games, each squid on the team plays a certain role with special abilities. The squid roles include Scout, Healer, Shooter and Trooper. Scouts are able to move twice per move if you tap in the direction you want to go during the first move. Healers will literally bump up the health of their teammates whether they’re the ones bumping or being bumped. Shooters are able to fire one shot worth high damage at a distance. Troopers are slow moving, but make up their lack of mobility with a large area of attack that can affect multiple enemies. The art and music are worthy of applause because the game takes advantage of the iDevice’s HD screen for picture perfect clarity. The music sets the mood for the storyline by being whimsical and playful. Added details such as updates of what each teammate is doing (who knew Twitter and YouTube works under water?) while the game loads the next screen is similar to Sims and welcomed. Squids is a must have game with an enchanting story tale, challenging game play and breathtaking visuals. Priced at $0.99 Squids is a steal for game enthusiasts who want to be dazzled.
