iWOD Mobile: your CrossFit companion app

Reviews

Introduction

iWOD Mobile by Storeboughtmilk LLC is a great app for those people who do CrossFit either at a box or on their own. It has tons of features and is free for just a couple of days, so get it fast. It’s normally $0.99.

What It's All About

If you do CrossFit and have been looking for an app that will provide you with workouts, show you how to perform individual moves, log your workouts, and give you Paleo breakfast ideas, then this is it.

The Home page is the CrossFit webpage so you can stay up-to-date on official happenings, see the WOD (and from days past), and more.

The Workouts tab lists 80 workouts, like Adam Brown, Bulger, Jason, RJ, Wittman, Angie, Fran, Nancy, Annie, and Nicole. When you click on one of the names you’re taken to a page that tells you exactly what that WOD requires you to do.

The Movements tab shows a list of all the movements you may have to perform while doing the WODs. When you click on one, you’re taken to a YouTube video showing you how to properly perform the move. All of the videos are official CrossFit videos.

The Paleo tab takes you to the Paleo Plan website, where you have access to more than 50,000 delicious Paleo recipes to try out. This will help keep you on track when it comes to eating properly! You’ll see recipes for breakfast, snacks, soups, salads, seafood, poultry, beef and game, pork, sides, and dessert, condiments. You can also sign up here for weekly menu plans and shopping lists, personal training, and more.

More User Info

The one thing I wasn’t sure about at first is the Log tab. When you click it, you’re asked to sign in to Google. After you sign in, you’re taken to a Calendar page. There’s no set log or anything; you’d have to create a log yourself. If you don’t want to put it in your calendar, you could also use Google Drive and create a document that logs your workouts. Basically, the app gives you a link to your Google documents, which is kind of cool, because then it’s synced through Google and would be accessible from any device or computer. It’s really easy to set up a chart using Google Drive/Documents from a desktop or laptop and then use it from your iOS device to track your workouts.

The app also has links to more than 20 sites where you can pick a different WOD.

The iTunes description page says there’s a built-in timer but I can’t find it.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Tons of features
  • Lets you log your workouts using a Google account so they’re always synced across devices
  • Thousands of recipes
  • Many different WODs to choose from; you’ll never get bored
  • Links to plenty of affiliate sites

Cons

  • The in-app timer either isn’t there or is hidden so well I can’t find it

Final Verdict

I really like this app and I’m glad I was able to get it for free to try it out. It has pretty much every feature I’d want in a WOD app, aside from the timer. It’s easy to navigate, shows you how to perform the different moves, and basically keeps you in touch with the official CrossFit site. What’s not to love?
