Eat Sleep app review: track your baby’s habits quickly and easily

Reviews

Introduction

Eat Sleep: Simple Baby Tracking by BitMethod is an app that is meant to make your time with a new baby a little easier. When you have a newborn, you don’t get as much sleep as you like and there are plenty of things you need to keep track of, like eating, sleeping, feeding, diaper changes, and even medications in some cases. This app will help with all of that.

What You Get

Eat Sleep makes it super-easy to enter in your baby’s diaper, sleep, and eat routine, which is exactly what new parents need. Who needs to try to fumble their way through a complicated app that takes forever to input data? Not people with a newborn, that’s for sure!

When you launch the app you’ll enter your baby’s name and birthday. You can even upload a photo if you want.

How It Works

To record an entry, tap on the icon that represents the activity you want to track: a bottle for feedings, a crib for sleep, a pin for diaper changes, and the pencil for a notes section. One great thing about this app is that it differentiates between whether you are nursing or bottle feeding: if you are nursing, when you click on the icon for the second time, you see a scroll wheel that shows Left, Right, Formula, or Pumped. Click Next, then you’ll pick the time. If you are nursing, you choose which side, the time, and for how long you nursed. For formula-fed babies and those fed pumped milk it also track the time and how many ounces the baby took.

The diaper changing tracker allows you to indicate if the diaper was wet, dirty, or both, which is great when you need to keep track of how many pees and poops your newborn is doing.

The app also offers the ability to track more than one baby at once, which is especially helpful for parents of multiples or those with several babies still in the diaper or nursing/bottle stage.

There are banner ads along the bottom, but you can buy the Pro version for $0.99 to remove the ads. Another in-app purchase (also for $0.99) allows you to export the information, which would be helpful to show to your doctor if needed.

One thing I couldn’t figure out is how to get the app to show which side was nursed on at the top, under the baby’s name, like in the app screenshots on the iTunes description page. When I entered a feeding, it saved the info but didn’t add that information to the top banner.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Fast and easy to enter feedings, sleep, and diaper change
  • Intuitive interface
  • Differentiates between nursed and bottle-fed babies

Cons

  • Couldn’t figure out how to get the left side/right side reminder to show at the top of the screen
  • Has ads
  • No built-in timers

Final Verdict

I like this app and will definitely be keeping it for when my baby is born in December. I had a little machine that tracked this stuff when my first child was born, but I gave it away a long time ago. I wish this app had built-in timers to help me remember when to check for diapers but I am sure I can just use my phone’s alarm for that.

This would be a great app to give as a gift to a new parent.
