X-Ray Camera FREE app review: a simple filter to put on your photos

Reviews

Introduction

X-ray Camera FREE by Fingersoft sets the expectations for users' intelligence pretty low. The first sentence on the iTunes page is: “This app is intended for entertainment purposes only and does not provide true X-Ray functionality.” It gets better than this: apparently, you can "Make your friends impressed by just waving your phone around with this super cool camera application.” I have to say, I would be really impressed if this app could actually take X-ray photos, but we’ll see if this app impresses without that functionality.

It Does What It Says It Will Do

This app does nothing more or less then it promises. You can take photos with the front or back camera. The visual, even before taking the photo, is already set on X-ray mode, so this truly is the only option that the app has to offer. You can also pick out pictures from your Camera Roll, where the X-ray treatment will be added on instantly. You can share this app with friends, though I can’t see why you would want to. The app has a standard email ready that will open in your mailbox ready to send to your contacts. There are no social media options, so sharing isn’t possible.

Presets and Ad-Free

This app also comes with a few - two to be exact - presets, which basically are an X-ray hand and an X-ray skull that you can filter over the photo you’re about to take. These are, like the rest of the app, pretty useless and don’t add anything to an already useless app.

While I was using the app, I didn’t see any ads at all pop up or annoy me, but this app still has a button in the top left corner of the screen, asking me if I would like to go ad-free. I would never pay for this kind of app, but just for your information, the ad-free version of this app costs $0.99.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • No annoying ads
  • The app delivers on what it promises

Cons

  • One-trick pony
  • Useless templates
  • No social media features

Conclusion

I think my review of this app has already spoken for itself: this is probably the most useless app I have ever seen. It does what it says on the iTunes page, but that's it. The two templates of a skull and a hand are badly implemented, and un-editable. Having to pay nearly a dollar to become ad-free is an absolute farce.

The app has been made for both iPad and iPhone, and weighs in at about 2 MB. At least you won’t be using much of your precious memory space for this app.
