CheapAir app review: the easiest way to find cheap flights on your mobile?

Reviews

Introduction

CheapAir, and app designed by cheapair.com, is designed for both iPad and iPhone. The app promises to be the easiest way to find cheap flights while you’re on a mobile device.  In addition to a classic, text based search, the app is the first of its kind that boasts voice recognition to make it even easier looking for a flight when on the road. Regrettably, as I tested this app out on an iPad 2, I couldn’t try out the much anticipated voice search as this is only compatible on iPad 3 and higher.

Let’s first start out looking for a flight the classic way. I need a flight soon, so let me see. Filled in all the different details and an error comes up. “This app only supports travel to and from the United States and Canada”. That basically means this app is useless for anyone living outside of North America. Well, let’s see how the app performs for a flight from the U.S. I decided to fly from Miami instead and within seconds an entire list of possible flights pop up, ranging from very cheap to pretty expensive. The conclusion here is that this app is pretty good getting decent results on flight comparison, checking different airlines, ranging from United Airlines to Spirit and from US Airways to Taca international.

Other options within the app

First of all, when you finally find a flight, you can easily buy the flight straight away, without leaving the app, or you can send an email to yourself and easily book via your computer. If you have been looking into flights from different origins, you can easily look back and compare flights as in the “recent” tab, your previous searches are all listed. This is a huge plus for the app, and will make choosing the perfect flight for you so much easier. Lastly there is a tab that allows you to contact CheapAir directly, via email. If you prefer to contact them by phone, their numbers are listed on this page too. There is no way to share your flight with anyone, which I believe is a missed opportunity for any app nowadays.

Conclusion

CheapAir is a perfect app for people who fly often from Canada or the United States. For someone who also flies without actually departing or arriving in those countries, this app is useless. The voice search is a great idea, but only works on newer devices. The search does compare between tons of different companies which is a big plus. Do not download this app if you’re not flying from or to North America as it’s a waste of your time. This is arguably the best flight booking app for the iOS. Check it out and see for yourself.
