PressReader app review: over 2300 newspapers from 55 different countries in one app!

Introduction

PressReader by Newspaper Direct Inc is an app that gives you access to tons of different newspapers and magazines from all around the world. The reader is a free app, however, to subscribe to newspapers you still need to pay, which you can do in app. A single newspaper will cost $0.99 but subscribing to the service and getting everything will cost you $39.99 a month. Luckily, there are also free newspapers available. The app itself only is 17 MB in size, and is designed for both iPad and iPhone, and your subscriptions will carry over between devices.

It’s like reading a real newspaper!

Finding and downloading newspapers is really easy, and there are so many, you will definitely be able to find one you want. You can read any newspaper the normal way, using page view, just as if the paper was delivered to your front door. Reading a newspaper is even easier using Smart Flow, where the articles are brought to you by page, but much better organized and laid out. Just swipe where you want to go and the app will bring you there. In the bottom of the screen is a handy chapter map which you can use to quickly jump to, for example, the sports section. Swipe up and you’ll get a quick search bar, meaning you can see the pages laid out next to each other for easy browsing.

 

Translation, listening and other options

This app also allows you to have the newspapers translated for you in numerous languages, depending on the original language. If you haven’t got your reading glasses, you can also use the listen option, that reads out the text for you, though in any language but English this sounds pretty strange. You can also easily print screen or even send your favorite article to a printer.

When you become a registered user, your purchases will carry over in your account, making it a lot easier to access your papers whenever you want. All newspapers are up to date, with me being able to download the latest issues from all over the world!

Conclusion

PressReader is a fantastic app for people who travel a lot but still want to keep track of the news. If you are subscribed to a newspaper at home, and still want to be able to read it, you will probably find it in this app. With all the free newspapers available here, if you want to keep track of world news, there will be a free paper in your language. Reading in page view and smart view both works fantastic and will offer a way of reading for everyone. I would definitely recommend this app, even if the price can be pretty steep.
