MyObservatory app review: accurate weather forecasting from the Hong Kong Observatory

Reviews

Introduction

This is a fully-featured weather forecasting app which utilizes the technology of the Hong Kong observatory to deliver accurate and up-to-date reports of the current and future weather conditions in your area, no matter where you are in the world.

I’m really enjoying this weather forecasting app with a difference, and I particularly like the user interface which is laid out in a manner with all of the different features – there are a lot – presented in an easily navigable format.

Feature-Rich Forecasting

As soon as I started this app for the first time I could see that I was onto something special. The main screen displays an overview of the current temperature, humidity, and wind conditions, along with the UV Index and any relevant storm and severe weather alerts.

If you’re planning on traveling Hong Kong or any of the surrounding regions, this app is ideal for keeping on top of all kinds of conditions with satellite and radar imagery, storm tracking, seven-day weather forecasts, coastal conditions, and even radiation levels and tide information.

More User Info

This is one of the most comprehensive weather apps I’ve ever had the pleasure of using and I only hope the developer would update it to cater for the rest of the world because I think it could definitely prove to be a big hit.

The geeky side of me really appreciates the amount of detail that has gone into this app; there are more than 20 different sections covering every aspect of weather and environmental conditions, along with loads of options for push notifications that will keep you aware of any sudden changes in things like rainfall.

Final Words

When it comes to weather apps, I can always see a clear distinction between those that have been developed as a matter of course and those that have been developed as a labor of love; MyObservatory is obviously a labor of love and the sheer amount of content and detail makes this very apparent.

Everything from satellite and radar maps to weather charts, rainfall mapping, storm tracking, and even the Hong Kong Observatory’s blog are included, so you absolutely must check out this app if you’re going to be traveling to Hong Kong any time soon. It would also be great for someone who would just like to learn a little more about the region.

There are forecasts available for major cities across the world but unfortunately these are very basic and only provide a very basic overview of the conditions such as the minimum and maximum temperatures, and whether the weather is clear, wet, overcast, and so on. If you’re looking for a weather app for use in the USA or Europe for example, then I would recommend using another app.
