Business Card Reader Pro app review: use your iPhone to manage your contacts’ business cards

Reviews

Introduction

Business Card Reader by SHAPE GmbH is meant to help you manage all of the business cards of your contacts. If you have been searching for a great business app to scan, store, and organize business card information, then you need to try out this app. It isn’t free, but it works much better than the alternatives.

What It's All About

This is one of those apps you’ll want to pay for. If you have a gigantic stack of business cards from your work contacts - or everyday contacts - and you’re sick of digging through it every time you need to contact someone, then you should try out this app. Even if you use a Rolodex (although who does that, these days?), this gives you a much better option.

The user interface is well-designed, with an intuitive layout and an easy-to-navigate menu. The Settings page recommends certain configurations, like medium sensitivity and auto flash mode. The default contact save location has the information from your cards go straight to your Contacts as well as Card Holder. If you prefer, you can keep your Contacts out of it and save just to Card Holder, or vice versa. It’s up to you. You can also change or add languages you want the app to recognize; default languages are English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. The app recommends that for the best experience, you should toggle off any languages you won’t need.

Using It

Saving a business card is really easy. You’ll see a frame on your device’s screen; follow the on-screen directions and fit the card inside of the frame. Tap the screen when it’s set and the app will take a photo of the card. Information from the card is saved automatically and stored to your default locations.

Main menu options are Take Photo, which allows you to take a photo of a business card; Select Picture, which allows you to choose a photo of a business card from your Camera Roll; Card Holder, which stores all of the saved information; LinkedIn, which will provide support for that social media platform including adding contacts, search, and importing other information like photos; and Export, which allows you to export business card information to Evernote and Salesforce (if you have an account and appropriate permissions).

The range of options you get with this app sets it apart from the rest. On top of that, it really works: the app recognizes websites, email addresses, and phone numbers with no problem and puts them in their proper fields to save.

The only con I can see at this point is that it’s not free, but you really get what you pay for when it comes to apps like Business Card Reader Pro.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Recognizes contact fields
  • Save to either Contacts or Card Holder (or both)
  • Lets you search

Cons

  • No cons except it’s not free, but quality apps rarely are

Final Verdict

I think anyone who gets handed business cards in the course of a day should get this app. It will totally change your life when it comes to organizing and storing the information found within those cards. Don’t keep those cards in a drawer anymore; scan them and get rid of them!
