Strong Runner app review: helping you train and become a strong runner

Reviews

Introduction

Strong Runner by Beneficial App Inc. is an app to give you everything you need to prepare yourself for becoming a strong runner. With helpful warming up, stretching, and exercise videos, in-depth training plans and help for the five most common running injuries, this app has everything you need to prepare yourself for a long run. Regrettably, not everything in this app is free, but it doesn’t have ads and  the training plans and injury help are available without any in-app purchase.

Training Plans and Injury Help

As mentioned in the introduction, this app comes with free workout plans, one to prepare you for a five-kilometer run and one to prepare you for a 10-kilometer run. These are built up in week-by-week plans, making you run and exercise a little bit more each time you work out, which is three times a week. Help with the five most common injuries are also included for free within the app. This is served to you in a handy interactive picture, where you tap on a part of a leg. The app then goes on to give you a list of symptoms, causes, and treatments. It also comes with some alternative exercises if the injury means you can’t do the normal exercises mentioned in the work out plans.

Paid-For Content

All the videos save for one per category that you get for free as an example, are paid for. These come in five different categories: Warm-up, Core Exercises, Lower Body, and Stretching. These exercises are often referred to during the training plans and are available to buy in-app per whole category.

Each category has ten videos, including the free one, and are available for $0.99 per category. I wasn’t able to find an option to buy all exercises at once for a discounted price, but maybe the developer will add this option later. These videos are of high quality, albeit a bit short, and are voiced over by a clear voice, telling you exactly what to do. An athlete on screen will mimic what the voice says just in case you get confused with what the voice has to say.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Good quality videos
  • No ads
  • Free training plans and injury help

Cons

  • Most content is paid content
  • No option to buy all content in one package

Conclusion

This app is perfect for anyone who wants to get fit for a five- or 10-kilometer run. The training plans are well built-up and the paid-for videos in this app are of high quality and give you exactly what you need to prepare yourself physically. With free training plans and injury help, I’m not sure what the paid-for content will actually add, but if you are serious about getting ready, they might just offer the extra help you need. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone.
