'Blosics' Offers New Angle For Physics Based Tower Shooters

Blosics may not be an original concept although it does a good job of defining itself among a crowded field. The premise of the game is simple: fling the colorful cartoon characters into a tower of blocks. Like most physics-based tower shooters, this game offers different environments in favor of endless variations of the same level. The key word is variety: ball size, obstacles, mazes, and other road blocks add a challenge to the overused formula. The levels become fairly diverse with the addition of things like spring pads that reflect your ball, ice obstructions that may or may not help your blocks fall, solid walls and other road blocks that may even destroy the block before gaining points.

You may have been one of the forty million plus people who played this as a flash game on newgrounds, and it is quite a different experience on the iOS. The graphics have been bumped up and different environments and achievements have been added, offering new challenges and concepts. There are currently four worlds, with the last three affecting gravity in some way. To win, you just have to knock the cubes out of the map, earning you points. Unlike the flash game, the ball's size is static, although they can be changed in the menu. The points accumulated each level can be used to purchase different balls, which usually unlock at the exact time you need them. These balls range from all shapes, sizes, and in some instances, multitude. The target blocks also change by these factors, providing more points for their execution when in a level.

This game can become a real brain teaser until the 'aha' moment where you realize the correct stream of events. It is very good at offering those roadblocks, especially later on, satisfying the call for challenge. That said, it often repeats itself, although different content is supposed to be added for free later on.
