Introduction
Digger’s Map by Slava Barouline is a geologist and prospector’s best friend. What it simply does is show on a world map where you can find certain natural resources. You can easily select the resource you want to show on the map and see where in the world you can find these.
The database holds over 60 minerals and can show more than 600,000 locations! There are a few things missing in this iPhone maps app, which I will get on to in a little bit, but all in all, this maps app has the potential to grow into a must-have app for any budding geologist.
Keep reading our Digger’s Map app review to see if this is one of the best maps apps for iPhone and iPad users.
An Extensive List of Minerals and Resources
I have to say, this app does give you a lot for free. In the Settings tab you can select one out of 16 different resources to see on the map without spending any money. These resources range from silver and platinum to chlorine and garnet.
It’s a huge letdown that you can’t select more than just one resource, as it would be so nice to see what kind of prospecting can be done around me. The app shows you on a map, but it only shows one resource at a time, so you’ll have to go through all 16 of them to see what’s near you.
In-App Purchases and Ads
Of course, the app holds back the most interesting resources like gold and gemstones. You can easily unlock these by going into the settings, where the app lists all the in-app purchases.
You can choose to simply remove the ad in the bottom for $0.99, but to gain access to more datasets, including gold and gemstones, one must pay $2.99.
Each and every data pack costs $0.99, but you can unlock all of them (totaling the entire set to over 60 resources) for $19.99. Spending any money in-app will also remove the ads.
On this page a feedback button is also added by the developer where you can let the developer know what you think.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Loads of free datasets
- A great app for the hobbyist prospector and budding geologist
- Loads quickly
Cons
- Not in-depth enough for the professional to use
- No ability to show all resources at the same time or find all resources near you
Conclusion
Digger’s Map is a really good app, especially for starting prospectors or hobby geologists. With one tap on the screen you can see exactly where certain resources can be found.
The free list of resources is already quite large, but spend some money and you can quadruple the amount of minerals you can see on the map.
The ad in the app is not annoying at all, but you can pay to switch it off too. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone, and comes in just under 50 MB. This app does exactly what it sets out to do.
