Introduction

This app is specifically tailored to those of you who want to start sculpting your abs to develop the ultimate six-pack. You get a range of abdominal workouts which are set to beginner, intermediate, and advanced difficulty levels, and even a feature which enables you to take progress shots and store them in a handy calendar format to see how your new abdominals are coming along.

I’m pretty impressed with the way this app is presented; there are demonstration videos for each exercise along with audio guidance and written step-by-step instructions.

While I think apps like this can be a little misleading in the sense that you need to strip away your body fat before your abs will become visible, I think that a resource like this is a great starting point for some people, and having the workouts laid out makes thing incredibly straightforward.

Work Those Appdominals!

This is the free version of the app and includes a decent amount of content to get you started. Once you feel like you’re ready to move up to a more intermediate level of training, you might like to consider upgrading to the full version of Ab Trainer X to unlock the more difficult workouts and exercises.

The workouts are very well-presented and work in the fashion of giving a 15-second countdown before kicking off. If you press the Dynamic Mode button you’ll be able to view the video and text instructions for each exercise overlaid on top of your workout, which is ideal for those of you who are still new to the concept who may forget how to perform certain movements.

 

Features

I really like the way you can adjust the duration of each workout depending on how much time you have available. You can also download all of the videos directly onto your iPhone which means that if you don’t have access to an Internet connection, you can still see all of the instructions, which I think is perfect if you don’t have a data plan or can’t access WiFi at your gym.

Beyond this, there is an awesome feature which enables you to take photos of yourself and log them in a calendar format to keep track of your ab development as it progresses; this is something that I haven’t seen in too many fitness apps which I find quite surprising. It’s great to see the developer has thought to include it here.

Final Words

Over the past few months I’ve been going through pretty much the same old abdominal routine every time I hit them at the gym, so I jumped at the chance to review this app.

I’m glad I did because although I’m already familiar with all of the exercises, it’s great to try a fresh approach. With the audio prompts, structured workouts, and progress shot calendar, I’m excited to kickstart my progress and get those abdominals showing again!
