Balanced app review: become more productive in ways which motivate you

Reviews

Introduction

This app, which is featured on our list of the Best habit building apps for the iPhone and iPad,  offers a novel and highly intuitive approach to living a more balanced lifestyle in the context of setting goals and remaining mindful of various aspects of life. It features a wonderfully unique gesture-based control system which provides you with a more balanced method of scheduling tasks rather than setting everything in stone.

Scheduling tasks is, for me at least, a real nightmare because when I write a to-do list I end up skimming over certain items or pushing them back. With Balanced, you have the chance to set activities ranging from personal development to creative tasks and even exercise, but they are laid out in a much looser format than simply sticking everything into a calendar with rigid dates.

Balance is the Key

I often find that setting myself a big load of tasks to complete results in my mind shutting down and procrastination setting in, which usually leads to me spending longer than I should on Facebook!

The user interface is delightfully simple and uses gesture-based controls which enable you to swipe down to add a new entry, swipe right to mark an entry as done, swipe left to skip it, or tap and hold it to edit details such as the title, frequency, and icon.

Skipping items or marking them as done sends them to the bottom of the list, so it doesn’t matter if you don’t get time or don’t have the motivation to finish a task, because you can just send it to the bottom and address it once you’ve done other, more pressing things.

More Features

As time passes and particular tasks remain incomplete, you’ll notice that they become more urgent, and this is represented by a growing line and changing text to reflect when each item is due.

I really think that Balanced provides a great way for people to more effectively manage their time, and having a more relaxed or balanced approach helps to prevent me from putting too much pressure on myself to get everything done immediately; this kind of thinking is what leads to feelings of being overwhelmed, which ultimately lead to procrastination.

This app is great and it definitely gets my recommendation.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Manage your time more effectively
  • Gesture-based control system makes navigation very easy
  • Tasks are categorized into areas such as fitness, creativity, personal, and more

Cons

  • There is nothing negative to say about this app

Final Words

This is frustrating because I’ve found a few really great apps similar to Balanced recently, so it’s difficult to tear myself away from them.  I really think, thought, that this app will appeal to many people who simply don’t work well under rigid deadlines and self-imposed pressure to get everything done right this instant.

If you are a relatively busy person with lots of thoughts and feelings to manage, and you want a new way of managing your time which works in tandem with your impulses and compulsions rather than against them, you absolutely have to check out Balanced. It could really change your life on a day-to-day basis.
