FasterScan HD app review: scan documents using your iPad

Introduction

FasterScan HD is a scanning documents app by IFUNPLAY CO., INC. I expected nearly nothing when I first downloaded this app. How can you use your iPad as a document scanner? I thought this was simply a photo app that allows you to take a photo of a document, something that can easily be done by using the iPad’s camera app. Nothing could have been less true, and I have to say I am really impressed by the way this app comes out with scans of your documents.

How Do You Scan a Document With Your iPad?

Fasterscan HD is really easy to use, even though you might have to try a few times. There is no tutorial in the iPad scanner app whatsoever, so you will have to fiddle around with different options before you get the hang of it. The camera of your iPad is your standard document scanning tool. After you’ve taken a simple photo, the app will allow you to select the corners of the document and it will automatically correct its edges to make the document look straight again. Then you can play around with different settings, that allow you to change the brightness and color use of the scan, or choose if you want to use the original, a color scan (which didn’t come out very well for me), or a black and white version. 

Automatic Image Enhancing and Sharing Options

According to the app’s App Store page, the app offers a full-fledged image enhancer. When I scanned my city map, I didn’t really see any difference with the photo I took and the end result after using the app. The only differences in quality were the actual settings I chose myself.

When you are happy with your scan, you have a choice between loads of different sharing options. You can post your scan on Ffacebook, export to your camera roll or send it to your printer. You can also choose to buy a Fax Package for $0.99 (or more, depending on your faxing needs) which allows you to send the document as a fax to over 100 different countries all over the world.

If you upgrade the app for $4.99 you get even more sharing options, including upload to all kinds of cloud storage facilities.

Conclusion

If you need to scan certain documents quickly when you’re on the road, this app is ideal for you. You can also enhance images and photos taken from other surfaces like white boards. There are no ads in the app, but upgrading to make full use of their exporting tools is quite steeply priced. The app is only compatible with iPad, which I can’t seem to figure out why. The app is well-designed and super useful.
