'Hero's Way' Sets Off For Adventure With Darn Good Results

Hero's Way is an action RPG and strategy game where you fulfill a grand hero's destiny. The game places you into a world where three aspiring saviors scourer the land and fight endless streams of enemies. The pacing is good, playing out almost like a puzzle game in format while still having the RPG feel in a strategic battle system. There are three basic classes all relating to a special skill: warriors for close range, rogues for long range, and witches for magic. There is a mysterious silhouette taunting the player about more classes later on. You can mix and match these three classes before heading out to the world and learning your backstory, which scrolls on the bottom as to not interrupt the action. You'll start in the spooky Dark Woods where you quickly learn the basics of combat and items. Instead of the usual top down approach for rpgs, this game plays like a side scrolling strategy fighter. What that basically boils down to is moving and dragging the three fighters around enemies to overwhelm and attack them. At the end of each level is a goal that one of those heroes must touch before victory.

Experience, coins, chests, and helpful items aid the player in becoming stronger for the long road ahead of them. By clicking on a character's portrait their status screen is shown where you can spend stat points to boost one of the three fields, change their weapon, or even give them better gear. Chests collected cost coins to open, but the supply the necessary items to aid your character. Reviving a dead hero also costs coins, so it is important to keep up. The controls are easy and combat isn't too difficult, making the game really accessible. Dragging does a variety of things including moving both the characters and camera, but they never conflict with each other. Tapping at the right moment could also boost your attack power. The graphics are very cartoony and emits a friendly appeal, despite having to fight some zombies along the way. Overall, it is a fairly fun fairy tale that will satisfy the customizer in all of us.
