Restaurants, Bars, Pubs & Clubs Finder Lite app review: probably the buggiest app in the world

Reviews

Introduction

In the last few months, I have reviewed many apps, including many apps that have the same or a similar functionality as Restaurants, Bars, Pubs & Clubs Finder Lite by Pop-ok.com. With so much competition out there, you would think that the developer would test the app properly, make sure it runs on all devices as declared, and performs all the functionalities it promises. Nothing is less true here; this is by far the buggiest app I’ve ever seen and even after trying multiple times, with multiple settings, I can’t get this app to work. It simply crashes constantly, until I started searching on a city.

Ads, Crashes and Filters

As with many of these "around you" apps, this app first starts by asking you to enable location services. Straight after this you will get a mention that “This promotion is only available to you,” an ad I didn’t dare to open. Then another stealth ad opens up, trying to make you tap either on the full version of the app or on a photo booth app. After canceling through these ads, you can finally get to the actual functionality of this app, the search function.

I’m looking for a Mexican restaurant (being in Mexico at the moment shouldn’t make it that hard), and as soon as I press search, the app crashes straight back to my iPad screen. I’ve since tried adding a filter to my search, with the only option to filter on is city/postcode.

Finally a Result and Settings

After trying multiple cities in my filter, searching for International restaurants in London came up with five (however will I handle the choice?) different restaurants. Here you can either call the restaurant (if there is a phone number available) or you can look at the restaurant on a map. Regrettably, choosing any of these options made the app crash again and after repeating this same search a few times I finally got to see the map, which uses the map data from Apple’s Maps app.

This app also has a Settings screen, which, if the app doesn’t crash while navigating there, has three options. You can choose how many records you want to see on each page, how you want to sort the list of found restaurants, and how large of a radius you want to search.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • No pros: move along

Cons

  • The app crashes constantly
  • The search function doesn’t work half the time, and when it does the result is abysmal
  • Annoying pop up ads

Conclusion

Ignore this app at all costs. This has been one of my worst app experiences, and I wonder why Apple let this one through its approval process. The app boasts compatibility with both iPhone and iPad, but it constantly crashed on my iPad, so I don’t think you can call that compatibility. Search results are laughable and the design of the app is horrible. If you have need for an app like this, there are plenty of other ones that work perfectly fine.
