Crate Crashers Free app review: hone your flying skills to steer your jet around obstacles

Reviews

Introduction

Crate Crashers Free is a game which has a very simple concept but is almost certain to have you pulling your hair out and coming back for more as you try to navigate the skies while avoiding flying crates in order to beat your previous high scores.

When I first started playing this game, I saw the basic graphics and thought the gameplay would be a walk in the park; how wrong I was!

Crate Crashers Free is the kind of game you can learn within a matter of seconds but mastering the control system is another matter altogether. I promise it will provide you with some very fun challenges, if you think you’ve got what it takes, that is!

Crates On a Plane?

Being the foolhardy person I am, I started up Crate Crashers Free for the first time and thought I’d jump straight into the action by hitting the Start button.

After seeing my jet plummet to the ground about three or four times, and having tried to control it by tilting my iPhone to and fro, and swiping the screen, I realized I was obviously premature in going straight into the game!

The control system is actually very simple and if you tap the About button on the home screen you’ll see that you simply have to tap the screen to keep your jet elevated. There is definitely some skill required here though because you mustn’t let your jet touch the top of the screen, as I learned the hard way!

Crate Balls of Fire!

One thing that jumped out at me was the background music, for no other reason than the fact that it’s wonderfully corny enough to put a smile on your face and make the gameplay a little more engaging.

Although I have enjoyed playing Crate Crashers Free, I’m not sure that it has a vast amount of replay value simply because the gameplay isn’t particularly varied.

It would be nice to see different types of obstacles and perhaps power-ups added in future updates as I think this would make things far more interesting.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Challenging game play with an interesting control system
  • Quirky background music to grab your attention
  • Instructions provided
  • Game Center support

Cons

  • Repetitive gameplay

Final Words

The main emphasis in Crate Crashers Free appears to be on the gameplay.

The audio-visual elements are very simplistic, as is the game concept itself, but the control system is such that you really mustn’t take your eyes off of the screen at any point, lest you become a Crate Crasher and get blown to smithereens!

I’m definitely going to need some practice on this game but I think it’s a great way of developing your coordination and reaction times.

All in all, this game is well worth checking out because it definitely has some addictive elements, and the control system alone will keep you engaged for quite some time!
