If you ever feel like you need that little pick me up, a quote can do the trick. With that in mind I took a look at the Quotes® app that is all about giving you that quick little line or two that makes your day that much better.
Inspirational and Funny Words
I recently got hooked on quote apps that provide you with humor, inspiration, and motivation. I figured this one looked as good as any other and decided to give it a try. In this free app you’re given a library of almost 30,000 quotes and wallpapers. Some of the quotes are famous ones and odds are, you've read many of those particular ones before. But for all those famous ones there are also all the other gems you've never read.
Upon launching the app, which was actually a bit slow to load, you’ll go right to the main menu. Now because this is a free version it is supported by ads and quite a few at that. Just to get to the main menu you’ll need to close a few pop-ups, which is rather annoying. There is also the ad banner that is always scrolling across the bottom of the screen.
Use your finger to move around the screen and tap on quotes that catch your eye. From here you can advance through the rest by flipping the page with your finger. Tap on the screen again and you’re able to comment on the quote, give it a thumbs-up or-down rating, or share it via email, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, or Instagram. You can also save to your photo album, copy, or print.
Where the App Goes Wrong
I enjoyed the variety of quotes here and found quite a few cute and funny ones that I ended up sharing on my Facebook page. Scrolling through them, however, was rather tedious. I wish they had been grouped in categories rather than a large collage-like main menu that gives you really have no organized way to navigate.
The amount of ads and pop-ups also got really annoying really quickly. They just were constantly popping on the screen and interfering with features and functions as I was trying to use them.
Pros and Cons
- A free library of quotes that can also be used as wallpapers
- The ability to share your favorite ones by email and on social networking sites
- Save quotes to your photo album
- Plenty of funny and cute ones to read through
- User interface is not well-thought out; going through the quotes is tedious
- The app is slow to load
- Constant pop-ups and ads as you’re trying to scroll through the content
Despite the fact that this library of quotes is huge and they are all free I found it a bit too difficult to move around and find quotes that appealed to me so I think I’ll still keep searching for a better option.
