MetrO app review: a complete guide to many public transport systems in the world

Reviews

Introduction

If you travel a lot, and you try to stick on a budget, it’s very important to try and use the local transport systems provided in many big cities. Usually, the maps provided can be very daunting and confusing. MetrO by Kinevia is an app that provides a handy route-planning tool for you to take anywhere you want. Just select a city you are visiting and within seconds you can search and plan a route from major landmarks, streets, and stations.

Visually, the app isn’t much to look at, but the app makes up for this with its speed and functionality.

How It Works

Finding a route is easy. First select your location from a list of over 400 cities all over the world. The app will download its information (you will need to be connected for this part) and make the city's information available to you. When you have done this, you don’t need an Internet connection anymore, and you can simply select a location within the city for your starting point (you can have the app find where you are), and select a destination of where you want to end up. The app will then tell you exactly where you need to get a form of transport, which line you need to take, and what your end point will be. The app will give you the shortest and the fastest way to get there by using a combination of different transport facilities available in the given city.

Constantly Updated

Transport systems all over the world are in constant transformation. New bus lines get added on a daily basis, and stations get opened and closed all the time. Luckily, the creators of this app know this, and they update the information on their servers constantly. A simple tap on the update button, and all your downloaded cities will be updated, and the app will let you know if there are any changes.

The app is completely free, has no ads, and offers no in-app purchases, which is something I haven’t seen much in my time of reviewing apps. The creators have a donate button on their blog page though, so if you feel inclined to help them out, you can do so there.
