Learn Spanish 24/7 app review: the fun way to learn Spanish

Reviews

Introduction

I have a confession to make. I have been trying to learn Spanish for over half a year now, and have been traveling through and living in Spanish-speaking countries for the last year. I still can’t speak fluent Spanish, and I struggle even having a light conversation with someone. My problem is that I have trouble sitting still and simply focusing on flashcards and phrase books. I want to learn a language while having fun! Learn Spanish 24/7 by 24/7 TUTOR INC. promises to be a fun way to learn the language and takes learning Spanish beyond the boring flashcards and phrase books.

Different Categories, Exercises, and Scoring

In the Lite version of the app, there are five different categories, each with around 20 words. In each category there are three different exercises that you can be scored on. There is a multiple choice category, which just by thinking you can get a good score (some of the other answers simply don’t make sense looking at the English word). Then there is the puzzle category, which is a poor man’s version of Hangman, where you select letters that you think should be in the word, and you can make five mistakes. Lastly there is Write In that allows you to write the word yourself, but offers you the option to listen to the Spanish version of the word.

You get scored five percent  for every correct answer you give, with a maximum score of 100 percent.

Other Categories, Pricing, and Ads

There are four more categories available in the in App Store, where most of the money is made for this developer. These are focused around food, restaurants, and travel, which is a bit minimal. Even with my limited Spanish I think that any of these categories will be easy and a waste of money for me. They are priced between $0.99 and $1.99, but could be worth it if your Spanish is completely non-existent.

Throughout the app, similar-looking buttons are places informing you about other apps from the developer. These instantly take you to the App Store, which can be quite annoying if you just want to have a quick study.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Fun exercises
  • Speaks the words out loud

Cons

  • So many ads
  • Only 100 words & sentences for free
  • Limited in-app purchases

Conclusion

I was excited reading the App Store page for Learn Spanish 24/7, but after using the app for about half an hour I can easily say that my excitement didn’t last long. The app has minimal content, the exercises are fun, but not that fun, and the constant ads everywhere are just annoying. The five categories are not equally useful and only have 20 words each, which simply isn’t enough to learn a language. The app is compatible with both iPhone and iPad and requires just under 17 MB in size.

If it was my choice, I’d use another app to learn a language.
