Multi Lang Dictionary and Translator app review" two great tools in one!
Introduction
There are a lot of dictionaries to be found in the App Store, as well as a load of different translation tools. I haven’t found any app that does both of these functions until today. Multi Lang Dictionary and Translator by Dynotes Mobile Technology LTD. does it all, and I’m happy I’ve found it. This app will translate any word into a multitude of different languages, and it will give you the meaning of the word as well, using a whole bunch of different sources on the Internet. You might even find a use of a word you didn’t know about, or find out a new word simply by translating it!

The Translator
The main reason why people would download this app is due to its translation function. If you keep English as the primary language, you will see you can translate into almost any language in the world. This works well for single words, but as soon as you start translating sentences, you can see that the developer has tried too hard to get all the different languages in here. When you choose a different language to translate from, you will quickly find that the languages to translate to are very limited. In this case you will need to translate to English first, and then to the language you want it in, which makes the margin of error a lot larger, and you should get worried that your word or phrase might become lost in translation.

The Dictionary
Surprisingly, this is where I found that the app really stands out. Even though the dictionary only seems to work in English, it does actually help finding out what a word means. Not only does the app actually translate to your goal language, it will give you a list of possible meanings and will show you a long list of web definition, collected from all over the Internet. This can mean that you find out that a word you were looking for is also a dish in a distant country, or that it is used as a swearword in a language you’ve never heard of. With some words it will even explain the history of the word, where it originates from technically and where it was used first!

Pros and Cons
Pros
-
Translate into many different languages
-
English dictionary with interesting web definitions
Cons
-
Mainly translate from and to English
-
Definitions only available in English
Conclusion
It’s easily said, but this is the best translation and dictionary app that I’ve found so far. The only bad thing I found is that when you want to translate from a language different from English, you can only translate to English. All the definitions in the dictionary are just in English too, so I will not recommend it to anyone who doesn’t speak the English language. If you do, please download this app and see for yourself. The app is just under 4 MB in size and works on both iPad and iPhone.
