PD Maps Worldwide Edition app review: map coverage for all over the world

Reviews

Introduction

With all the different map apps in the App Store, it’s really hard to make a decision on which one is the best for you. Every map app has a different advantage or focus, making each and every app perfect for someone else. I have already found my perfect map app in Google Maps, simply because it has everything I need, but PD Maps Worldwide Edition comes close, very close. I have been very surprised on what this app has to offer and how fast it is. Some of the options seem a bit too much for me, though there must be people out there for whom this is the perfect map app.

Maps and Route Planner

Like I said in the introduction, this app is fast. It might even be faster than its bigger brother, but it will be a very close call. The map area includes the entire globe, and has most of the roads marked (believe me, I’ve checked some small sandy roads in Guiana, and they are on there!). You can however always change map provider, if you feel like you are better off using anything else than the standard setting. You can also see traffic information layered on a map, and even get route information on a step by step basis. All in all, this app offers everything that the major map providers have to offer. My feeling is that this app tries to do a bit too much.

Other Options and Going Pro!

If you choose a different provider, some of the options these maps have available for you will also work in PD Maps, such as the places around you from Wikimapia or Panoramio. The app also offers a five-day weather forecast wherever you want in the world. You can also make maps available offline, with unlimited tile storage. This last option, however, is only available for premium users. You can gain access to the premium app simply by pressing the dollar sign in the bottom left corner of your screen. This also gets you express support from the developers, if you have any problems with the app. This premium status will set you back $2.99.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a map app that does nearly everything, PD Maps Worldwide Edition is the app for you. Some of the options might be void for most people, but if anything, this map app is the most complete one in the App Store. Without ads, and offline maps for premium users, this app is truly the one that map lovers around the world should have on their device. Traffic info and a route planner is just the icing on the cake. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and the app takes up only 1.5 MB.
