Way Over My Head

So when I downloaded this app I figured I’d have no problem reviewing it; guess again! The math problems and questions in here are so far over my head that I’ve decided maybe I should keep this for myself, never mind a Grade Eight student!

When you launch the app you are taken to the main menu which is less than impressive. In fact it’s so basic-looking that I actually had a hard time figuring out what to do next as it’s all too simple-looking.

I wish there had been a little more time and energy spent on the user interface. You will need to tap on “Play” to be taken to the menu of activities.

You are given 10 different types of math categories to use such as graphing, scientific notation, rational numbers, and more. Tap on any of the categories and you will be taken to the list of activities/games in that particular section.

I like the 30-second challenge where you are given 30 seconds to answer as many question as possible. What is really cool is that the app keeps your scores and how you answered each question, which you can then email to yourself or anyone else so you can see where you’ve gone wrong and learn from your mistakes.

Not All Are Available

You’ll notice as you’re scrolling through the menu not all the games/activities are accessible. Some require points which show up as bananas. You can make an in-app purchase of bananas if you like, which is $0.99 for 100 bananas.

The other option is to purchase a pack of six more quizzes for $0.99. The additional quizzes, which are the ones not included for free, are statistics, geometry, functions, identifying functions, and linear equations.

Each of the topics has three levels of difficulty and they are all aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Each of the levels can be replayed as much as you want.

You'll be able to earn achievements and compete with the leader boards and friends. Additionally, you'll be working to earn new game modes, boosts, backgrounds, and characters.
